I started diceRollProse when my cat died leaving me with nothing interesting to post on social media. He was the only interesting thing I had going for me at the time, we miss him dearly. diceRollProse is a random weekly challenge I set myself to enhance my writing skills and vocabulary. I take words-of-the-day provided by online dictionaries and ply them into a short prose. Anyone can do it and it’s a heck of a lot of fun. Click the Instagram link to see all the posts so far. Alternatively you can scroll through my feed below (look for pictures with words). Don’t have Instagram? That’s fine, you can view all my diceRollProses in my blog. The only draw back of the blog is you lose the impact of reading the prose before the illustration is revealed to you.

How is it done? Well, first of all you grab a word-of-the-day app. I use Word of the Day – Vocabulary Builder. That done, accumulate all the words-of-the-day over a week. I go from Sunday – Saturday so I can post my prose on the Sunday. Then you write your prose, including as many of the prescribed words as you can. I underline mine so they can be easily identified. And that’s it in essence. However, if you’re into the story-by-picture approach you can do that, of course. I get my illustrations from ArtStation.com after asking permission from the artist.
